Renewing Your Fortinet License the Right Way: Steps, Tips & Best Practice
Share
To keep your Fortinet firewalls protected with ongoing signatures, updates, and FortiCare coverage, it’s important to renew your subscription before it lapses. Below is a simplified guide on how to check, purchase, and activate your renewal.
1) Review Your Current Subscription Status
-
Log into the Fortinet Support Portal (support.fortinet.com)
-
Go to Asset Management > Product List
-
Search by serial number to view active contract details and expiry dates
If the contract is already expired or close to expiring, plan your renewal now.
2) Purchase a Renewal Contract
Renewals can be ordered through:
-
Authorized Fortinet distributors / resellers
-
Fortinet partners in your region
Make sure the renewal SKU matches your exact model and includes the service sets you require (FortiGuard, FortiCare, etc.)
Note: Renewing early does not waste remaining time—unused days automatically roll over.
3) Apply / Register the Contract
Once you receive your registration code:
-
Login to support.fortinet.com
-
Go to Register/Renew > Register Product
-
Enter the serial + the registration token
-
Submit to bind the new contract with your device
4) Verify Activation
After activation, the device will update with FortiGuard automatically.
You can confirm by:
-
GUI: Dashboard → License Information
-
CLI:
get system status
